- Currently a Yankee by marriage and location, but a Steel Magnolia by blood. My northerner status is courtesy of my native-to-New York husband. Two of my babies and I were born in Tennessee, in the SAME hospital, which means this family is sixty percent Southern. My husband is granted a "semi-Southern" status, courtesy of the kids and me!
